On August 25, 2023, we will mark the 100th anniversary of the birth of Fernando Távora, a prominent figure in Portuguese culture and architecture, with a particular connection to the northern region of Portugal, where most of his works are located, and where he taught at various schools. An extraordinary and catalytic personality, in his diverse and unorthodox roles as an architect, thinker, traveler, collector, bibliophile, and professor, he influenced successive generations of architects.
To celebrate the centenary of Fernando Távora, the Order of Architects, the Marques da Silva Foundation, the Faculty of Architecture at the University of Porto, the Department of Architecture at the University of Coimbra, and the School of Architecture, Art, and Design at the University of Minho have come together to propose a program of initiatives. Between August 2023 and September 2024, these initiatives will celebrate his life and work.
At its core, the program will feature a traveling exhibition, colloquia, open lectures, and guided tours of Távora’s works. Additionally, the program will include various initiatives from the partnering institutions, such as book launches, map editions, workshops, and meetings.
